Hawaii - Day 0

I'm really not sure how I feel about tomorrow.  On one hand, we're heading to Hawaii.  On the other hand, we have to spend seven hours in a plane with four small children.  We do have four adults, so there is a 1-1 child to adult ratio, but seven hours is a long time.

Anyway, this is the first big trip we've taken with Bradley and our first big vacation in two years.  I also noticed that it's the first time we've flown in quite some time.  This will be Jonathan and Bradley's first flight, and the first flight that Evan will remember, as he was just a baby the last time we flew.

Due to having a very small baby, we skipped a large family vacation last year.  Instead, we chose to spend a bit of the summer with Grandma and Grandpa at the chuckwagon races in Turtleford.  However, Sandra gets a bit antsy whenever we haven't gone on a trip in awhile, so when she found out that Airmiles were introducing an expiry date, that made the perfect reason to plan a vacation far away from home.

Planning an Airmiles flight is never as easy as just paying for the flight, since you are very restricted on the flights that are available and we waited too long to be able to go during the February school break.  Thus, we are heading out over Easter.  Despite the fact that it has finally started warming up this week, the sun and warmth in Hawaii will be extremely welcome after the bitterly cold winter we endured.  The current forecast for Honolulu is mainly sunny and 27 degrees for the next week, which is awesome.

We're going to spend one week in Honolulu, exploring Oahu, and then fly over to the Big Island and spend our second week in Hilo and Kona, before returning to Regina.  We rather easily convinced Sandra's parents to come with us and the kids are pretty excited about both the trip and spending some time with Grandma and Grandpa.  It should be a fun time (notwithstanding the flight).

We leave ridiculously early in the morning, and due to the fact that we are flying west, we gain a bunch of time, which means that while tomorrow will be an exceedingly long travel day, we arrive in Honolulu just after lunch.  We should have time to do a few things (like take the kids to the beach) before we collapse from exhaustion.
