Epic East Coast - Day 3

I'm not sure how to describe this day.  Nothing went wrong, but the lineup to see the CN Tower was unbelievably long, and that has left me exhausted.

We spent a quiet morning in the condo, ate lunch and then headed out for a walk around the waterfront.  There was a bunch of stuff going on, but we didn't really want to spend any time on small local events - though a couple of navy ships were in port and giving tours, but the lineup appeared far too long (and in the sun).  I bought the kids some ice cream, since yesterday I had promised them ice cream on the way home, but we ended up taking a different route home, past the Air Canada Centre, and that bypassed all the ice cream stores.

We eventually arrived at the railway museum at an old roundhouse south of the CN Tower.  It was much smaller than I expected, but it had Thomas trains and LEGO trains for the kids, so we stayed for awhile and let them play.  The most interesting part was a cab from a diesel that they had hooked up to a train simulator program, so that you could drive a train exactly like a real engineer would.  The three older kids tried it, though Jonathan just kept moving levers at a rapid pace and ignoring what was going on on the screen.

Outside the roundhouse, there was a small steam train that you could ride on, so I took all the kids on it for a nice sunny ride around the park.  We then climbed through a caboose and took some pictures near an old engine.  As it was still early, we made the decision to check out the CN Tower, since Evan was super excited about it - he has been bugging us to go up since we arrived in Toronto.  I'm glad he enjoyed it, as over 1.5 hours in line to get to the top, plus another 45 minutes to get down, all for a short time looking out over the city wasn't very exciting.  Actually, all the kids enjoyed the view, and they all really enjoyed the glass floor - it is kind of eerie to see your three year old lying prone 800 feet above a baseball diamond.  It was just too much money and too much line for too little excitement.  Definitely not something I would repeat doing, or even advise someone to do if they were in town.

After finally getting down, we sat down outside to rest for a bit in the relative peace and quiet of the walkway outside the tower, before walking home for supper and baths.  I won't be posting on time tomorrow, as we have tickets to the Royals and Blue Jays game at 7:00pm and tickets on a train to New York at 8:00am the next morning, which doesn't leave a lot of time for sleep.  The train trip is 12 hours long and includes wireless Internet, so I should be able to put something up Tuesday morning.

Glad you had a good day in spite of the long wait and expense. The trains sounded like fun. I'm sure Dad would like it.
